City of London Transport (CLT) is British transport company in London, England.

Information[]

City of London Transport (CLT) was founded on July 3, 2000, as a public transport company providing the majority of transportation services within the city. While a few private companies remain operational, CLT dominates the public transit sector. The company operates buses, trains, underground tubes, trams, coaches, and even some taxis. However, taxis are still primarily owned and operated by private firms rather than under one parent company.

CLT routes span the entire city, connecting every corner, from the slums of the South to the wealthy West, the gritty North, and the trendy, eccentric East. The company is overseen by the Mayor of London, who holds ultimate decision-making authority over its operations and governance. In addition to buses and trains, CLT manages Coaches, Canal Services, London Taxis/Cabs, and Rent-A-Ride services. Despite their availability, the latter services are less popular, as private companies continue to hold significant influence in these areas of transport.

History[]

CLT was founded on July 3, 2000, after Mayor John Cornerstone won a bar brawl with British Conservative MP Andrew Fuller, who opposed the creation of CLT. Around this time, many private transport companies began to fade out as larger corporate companies emerged and took over the transport business. These companies were eventually bought out by CLT, which converted them into CLT services such as the London Underground, Tramlink, and DLR.

CLT replaced London-Travel Co., which had been the head of transport from 1912 to 1999. Buses were the first service CLT took over, followed by the Underground, and then the Overground. CLT also created Tramlink in March 2003 and CLT Quick Railway in January 2007.
