South Eden, known as the Southside, is one of the major geographical regions of Eden City. It is widely regarded as the poorest and roughest area in the city, characterized by rampant poverty, dilapidated housing, widespread graffiti, and a deeply entrenched gang culture. South Eden is infamous for having the highest rate of gang violence in the entire metropolitan area, with warring factions dominating its streets.

Due to the overwhelming criminal activity, South Eden has been entirely cordoned off by the Anti-Defiance Squad, making it a heavily monitored and controlled zone. The Eden City Constabulary has deemed it a no-go area, with standard police patrols rarely venturing inside, leaving most law enforcement operations to the ADS. For many, South Eden represents the stark divide between the city's affluent regions and its forgotten underbelly.

Locations

William Thorne Homes

Inspired by massive housing projects in the United States, such as the Robert Taylor Homes, the William Thorne Homes is the largest public housing project in Oceania. Consisting of 10 identically-designed high-rises and 14 mid-rises. The project was commissioned by the Eden City administration in 2017 to anticipate immigrantion influx from the new open border policy. Construction was completed in 2020. The project is inhabited by 14,000 people, nearly twice as much as the ideal figures of 7,500 residents.

Almost 60% of the project falls into a horrible state of disrepair. Structural issues such as poor electricity and sanitation, broken elevator, and damaged stairs make it difficult for people to traverse inside. These areas are contested by various street and youth gangs, such as the Pacific Nation, B. A. D., and Da Breatherz.

Trivia

  • The cordoning off of South Eden by law enforcement is inspired by the real-life Exarcheia district in Athens, Greece. Known for its history of anarchist activity and clashes with authorities, Exarcheia is treated as a no-go zone for police.
