Edgar Zuáznabar Del Castello, or known by his nickname "Zanzibar", was a conman who operated around the State of Tequesta and The Caribbean from mid 1980s to 2015. He signed a deal with Vice-Dale Investigation Bureau Economic Crime detective who apprehended him, Sienna Raycroft, to a work-release program to aid Sienna's griftbusting effort as her advisor.
He was regarded by grifters Thomas Kingston, Maria Vinogradova, and Cesar Álvarez as their most formidable nemesis and their primary reason to never expand the crew to a quartet. Edgar's vast experience as a much seasoned scam practitioner made him a step ahead of the trio most of the times.
Backstory[]
Considered as one of the most unique criminals in the State of Tequesta, Edgar had a long history as a grifter and imposter dating back to 1986. Unlike most confidence artists who deceived to enrich themselves or to chase instant satisfaction, Edgar used confidence trick as the prime means of surviving.
Edgar's family was the first wave of Cubans immigrants in 1959 who settled in Little Cuba, and he grew up during a period of social turmoil produced by the Mariel boatlift and war on drug. Vice City's economy was declining. The streets were dangerous with cartel assassins spraying their machine guns wildly. Non-white skinned people, such as the Cubans, were racially abused.
Personality[]
Edgar was conflicted between his old and new worlds, between a free imposter life and a strict consultant role. His loyalty was consistently ambiguous. He toyed with both sides and tricked everyone on the quest of getting his full freedom back.
Trivia[]
- Edgar is inspired by Neal Caffrey from the series White Collar and Thaddeus Bradley from Now You See Me, while his backstory is inspired by the life of Ferdinand Waldo Demara.
