Fortunate Face is an exclusive DLC featuring Thomas Kingston in Light & Shadow.
Thomas uses his charm and cunning to infiltrate the lives of the wealthy, disguising himself as their friend to swindle their fortunes. Key locations, referred to as "Hunting Grounds," are marked on the map with a winged eye mask.
After completing the mission "(undefined)", an ally (undefined) sends Thomas a text with tips on deceiving wealthy but naive individuals. These "Hunting Grounds" then become accessible, offering opportunities to execute cons.
"Hunting Grounds" include various high-society venues, such as high-end restaurants, yacht parties, casinos, and other social hotspots where the elite gather.
Gameplay[]
Collect the Clues[]
When Thomas enters a Hunting Ground, the atmosphere changes. These are places where wealth and power intermingle, high-end venues alive with laughter, clinking glasses, and quiet deals in the shadows. Whether it's a yacht party, an exclusive restaurant, or a luxury casino, the setting offers a tapestry of opportunities for someone with Thomas's talents.
When entering a Hunting Ground, Thomas keeps a few critical guidelines in mind to ensure his success and avoid suspicion:
- Blend In: Time is limited, so Thomas acts the part, adopting the behaviors and mannerisms expected in high-society settings to avoid suspicion.
- Focus on Clues: He filters through conversations to identify genuine leads, avoiding distractions and irrelevant details that waste time.
- Stay Ahead: Thomas anticipates risks, adapting quickly to shifting dynamics and staying in control while identifying his target.
Thomas keeps his ears open for overlapping chatter or shared details. Sometimes, the mark's name drops outright, but more often, the clues are vague. He has to read between the lines, trust his instincts, and follow the threads to zero in on the right target.
For example, if the target is named Edward Kempfield, here's how Thomas might overhear clues:
- Easy Cases
- "Where's Edward?" / "He's at the bar. That idiot is showing his badge to everyone. Fucking moron."
- (On the phone) "Yeah, Mr. Kempfield's order. Bring the package to that place. Dammit, don't tell him. He's in a good mood because of his lovely cocktail. And I heard Internal Affairs is watching him now. Don't do anything stupid, okay?"
- Hard Cases
- "That idiot still drinks at the bar. What was the name? Kempner? Kempfield? Kennedy? Whatever."
- "Did you see his toy?" / "Yeah, that ratface at the bar? Fucking sheriff. Someone needs to shoot him to stop."
Deceive the Prey[]
Once Thomas gathers enough information about his targets, he confronts them while carefully adopting a persona that aligns with their expectations to avoid raising suspicion. Time is limited, so he must read their behavior and adjust his approach accordingly.
- Arrogant targets respond well to flattery and admiration. Thomas would have to buy rich things for making them happy or troubleshoot their problems.
- Cautious targets require precise answers to their questions. Sometimes the 'tokens of trust' will be helped to make them believe - such as ID card, emblem of inner circle, etc.
- Greedy targets are easily tempted by promises of wealth or exclusive opportunities. Thomas must set the 'scene' for luring them into with reliable materials - brilliant office, extravagant party, luxury vehicle, etc.
Thomas must use the topics and keywords he gathered to guide the conversation and steer it in his favor. He should choose responses carefully to keep the target engaged and build trust. Missteps, however, can erode their confidence. If the target grows too suspicious, they may leave, ruining the con.
To succeed, Thomas must read the room, adapt quickly, and maintain his composure throughout the interaction.

Set the Trap[]
Thomas must carefully "set the trap" and draw the prey into it. His success depends on making the right decisions and staying alert to every subtle clue in their behavior, body language, and words.
As the conversation unfolds, Thomas listens intently, picking up on key phrases and shifts in tone. Certain words catch his attention, hints that could reveal what the targets are thinking or how they might be persuaded. He uses these insights to guide the interaction, responding in a way that keeps them engaged and unaware of his true intentions.
While he has some room to think before responding, time is of the essence. The longer the interaction drags on, the more likely the targets are to sense something is off and leave. Misjudging their reactions or making them uneasy could unravel everything, forcing Thomas to start over. Precision and timing are everything in this delicate game of manipulation.
The Hunt[]
This step is so simple. Players should just complete the mission as they promised before.
