The S.A.H.P. Update is a content update for Grand Theft Auto Online, released on April 6, 2022.

Description[]

Crime has been rising in San Andreas, and no one's sure why. The state highway patrol has been deployed in full force to curb the chaos in the Los Santos area. For you, the rise in crime means more competition, but for a certain cop out there, it's a big problem that has to be dealt with. And he's looking for help from an unusual source—you.

Jobs[]

Missions[]

The update introduces a series of six missions for San Andreas Highway Patrol Lieutenant Jackson Carrs, initiated by an anonymous phone call in Free Mode after the player reaches or passes Rank 100. The SAHP missions follow a storyline, and have the protagonist assist Carrs in dealing with criminal threats while unraveling a conspiracy against San Andreas. The missions can be played by 1-2 players.

Backup Calls have also been added, and are available after completing all SAHP missions as host. They consist of short missions in Free Mode that are activated by calls from Carrs, similar to DJ Requests.

Character Customization[]

  • Over 150 new clothing items, including 15 masks, have been added.
    • If the SAHP missions are completed in order, Carrs will gift the host player a unique SAHP uniform that cannot be purchased from clothing stores.

Vehicles[]

This update adds a total of 19 new vehicles:

  • 7 readily available with the initial release, including two custom vehicles.
  • 10 released through event weeks.
  • 2 for law enforcement only that cannot be purchased, but spawn while wanted.

Changes[]

  • The San Andreas Highway Patrol is now called in if a player is wanted.
    • SAHP officers driving Police Buffalo STXs, Police Gresleys, and Police Bikes will start to spawn at four stars alongside NOOSE and local police, though they will be uncommon.
    • At five stars, SAHP officers driving Police Buffalo STXs and Police Gresleys will almost entirely replace local police for the duration of the wanted period, fighting the player alongside NOOSE.
  • SAHP officers now have their own voice lines, and will declare themselves as SAHP. This change also affects SAHP officers in Story Mode.
  • The La Mesa Police Station has been retextured with SAHP seals and designs, implying control of the station has been shifted to the SAHP. However, LSPD officers will still spawn outside the station, and LSPD cruisers can still spawn in the station's parking lot.
  • SAHP officers will no longer commandeer civilian vehicles in pursuits, and will instead properly use their vehicles. This change also affects SAHP officers in Story Mode.
  • The Police Bike's textures have been redesigned with an SAHP livery, resembling that of the real-life California Highway Patrol.
  • The Police Cruiser, Police Buffalo, Sheriff Cruiser, Unmarked Cruiser, FIB Buffalo, Ambulance (Los Santos Fire Department livery only), and Police Bike can now be purchased on Warstock Cache & Carry. Like the Fire Truck, they are all Pegasus vehicles.
    • The Lifeguard has also been converted to a Pegasus vehicle. As such, the Lifeguard has been removed from all Garages, and any slots the Lifeguard was in have now been emptied. Players who had the Lifeguard in their Garages before the update received a notice upon logging in after installing the update, informing them of the change.
  • The Police Cruiser, the Police Buffalo, and the Unmarked Cruiser now spawn during wanted levels in Los Santos, albeit uncommonly.
  • Taxis now spawn in traffic, only in the downtown areas and near Los Santos International Airport.
  • The Orbital Cannon's price has been increased to $750,000 for manual targeting and $950,000 for automatic targeting.
    • The Orbital Cannon's automatic targeting will now ignore players that are on Free Mode missions, such as sell missions.
  • Personal Aircraft now spawn closer to the player. For example, if a Personal Aircraft is called at Los Santos International Airport, it will spawn nearby on the tarmac.
  • The kill requirements for weapon tints now count NPC kills as well as player kills.
  • The Navy Revolver can now be unequipped at Gun Lockers.
  • Molotov Cocktails can now be purchased through the Interaction Menu.

Trivia[]

  • This update was the first update to GTA Online to feature beta and unreleased content on Rockstar Newswire. From the Rockstar Newswire post, it was shown that:
    • SAHP vehicles were all meant to be slicktops. An additional emergency light on the vehicles would be the driver's side spotlight, which would emit a red still-burn light alongside the regular emergency lights.
    • The SAHP's SUV was initially meant to be a Granger 3600LX. However, it was replaced by the Police Gresley.
    • Additional vehicles were conceptualized but not added, including a police Rumpo, a civilian version of the Police Gresley, and a new police motorcycle for the SAHP.
    • The Premier Classic was originally meant to be converted into an emergency vehicle, not the Stanier Decommissioned.
    • A riot shield was meant to be added alongside the update. This was later added in the Air Superiority update as the Ballistic Shield.
