Grand Theft Auto: Songs from the Bayou shares its year setting with Grand Theft Auto: RPG. The players take control of Polish-born Registered Nurse; Aleksandra Kowalska as her life is uprooted when she saves the life of an influential individual.

Songs from the Bayou retains the third-person view used through out the GTA series while also being able to switch to first-person view. Additionally, underwater swimming returns which was absent from New Leaf and RPG. However, a new feature includes underwater firearms that can be used while swimming allowing for underwater combat.

The Escort Killer is a serial killer and the primary antagonist of the game as they continually kill victims with a past history of being either a prostitute or gigolo. Their first victim was founded by Aleksandra Kowalska.

The Contact
The Contact is an mysterious individual that contacts Aleksandra Kowalska. During all encounters with her; they wear a black opaque back over their head to protect their identity and uses a voice modulator to mask their true voice. They usually gets Aleksandra to assassinate certain targets that they deems as "threat" to national security with the intentional target being either Aurora or Navy to test her. They are the secondary antagonist of the game.
El Burro is the tertiary antagonist of the game, and a one-night stand of Aleksandra. He ends up framing Aleksandra for violating HIPAA and a few other crimes which causes her to be sent to prison for a month.
Lionel Van is the quinary antagonist of the game and a high-ranking member of Phía đông Dân Gian that failed to kidnap Jean-Luc Deveraux and Emily Deveraux at the start of the game.

Jean-Luc Deveraux is a major character in Grand Theft Auto: Songs from the Bayou and influential person in New Bourbon. He is the leader of the Les Renégats. He was born in France and is the father of Emily Devereaux.
