“Hello. I am Miklos Lipton.
A violent psychopath who will take over the underworld.
Long story short; RUN.”

Miklos Armando Lipton is the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto: King Of The Hill.

Background

Miklos was born in Carcer City in 1988 to Michelangelo Lipton and an unknown mother. His father, a notorious thief, was largely absent during Miklos' childhood. When Miklos was just 10, his mother passed away, and Michaelangelo left him at Bullworth Academy.

Life at Bullworth was anything but easy. Constantly bullied for being the "poor kid" with no family support, Miklos quickly learned to be scrappy, standing up for himself in the academy's notoriously rough environment. His tenacity and willingness to fight back earned him a begrudging respect among his peers. By his senior year, Miklos had carved out a reputation as someone who could hold his own, transforming from an easy target into someone his classmates respected, even if they didn't dare cross him.

The next time Miklos saw his father was at his graduation at 18, and the reunion was anything but pleasant. Michelangelo's sudden appearance after 8 years of absence only deepened Miklos' resentment. Feeling abandoned and betrayed, Miklos channeled his anger into crime, determined to prove he didn't need his father. What began as small-time theft quickly escalated, as Miklos sought to build a name for himself in the criminal world, far removed from his father's shadow.

Miklos followed in his father's footsteps and got his start in crime as a thief and getaway driver for gangs back in Carcer City. He was the guy you'd call when you needed to make a quick escape, though he'd be the first to admit he didn't know much about cars beyond driving them. Lucky for him, his skills behind the wheel kept him ahead of the law, and he never got caught.

In 2007, at the age of 19, Miklos made the surprising decision to leave behind his life of petty crime and enlist in the US Military. Seeking discipline, purpose, and a way to break free from the dangerous path he was on, Miklos saw the military as his chance to turn things around. It was during this time that he met Tony Meech, a fellow recruit with a sharp wit and an unshakable sense of loyalty. The two quickly formed a strong bond and were eventually deployed together to Afghanistan.

In early 2012, their squad was assigned a high-stakes mission to destroy a terrorist weapons cache. However, the mission went disastrously wrong when their unit was ambushed. With heavy losses, the mission was aborted. Refusing to retreat, Tony Meech, driven by sheer determination, defied orders and attempted to complete the mission on his own. Tragically, he was caught in an explosion that claimed his life, leaving a lasting scar on Miklos and reshaping his outlook on loyalty, loss, and duty.

Devastated by the loss of his close friend, Miklos left the military and returned to Carcer City in 2013, where he spent the next year working as a security officer at various events, struggling to find direction in his life.

Events in King of the Hill

In 2013, Miklos was offered a position with Merryweather Security by Sergeant Otto Matic, who was recruiting ex-military soldiers. Given that military work was the only thing he excelled at, and his life felt like he had no meaning or excitement, Miklos accepted the offer without hesitation. During his time with Merryweather, he encountered Perry Harris, a cocky and ambitious soldier who claimed to have a grand plan that Miklos would be perfect to help execute. Together, the two worked many dirty, black-listed jobs that should never see the light of day.

Not long after, Devin Weston, impressed by Merryweather's rising star, approached Miklos with a covert task: to spy on a man causing him problems, known as "Michael De Santa". To carry out this mission, Miklos relocated to Los Santos, staying at the home of his cousin, Thomas.

While in Los Santos, Perry Harris revealed the details of his so-called "plan" to Miklos: the two of them, just a pair of scrappy, overlooked soldiers, would seize control of the city's criminal underworld to gain fame, power, and wealth. Though intrigued, Miklos promised to think about it, choosing instead to focus on completing Weston's assignments and gathering his thoughts on Perry's scheme.

Perry introduced Miklos to Victor Sax, a member of the Varrios Los Aztecas and a close ally of Perry. Victor promised to support their ambitious scheme, even though Miklos remained hesitant. With Sax and the Aztecas backing them, Miklos set his sights on the Armenian Mob. At first, he targeted them solely to please Perry, but as he began to taste the power and wealth that came with their operations, Miklos grew increasingly determined to claim the title of Ultimate Kingpin of Los Santos.

Miklos methodically dismantled the Armenian Mob's operations over the next few weeks, forcing them to their knees and eventually called a cease-fire. There, he took over the faction led by Alan Nazarian, a seasoned Armenian crime boss. Operating under the guise of a Merryweather Security contractor, Miklos gained the trust of Nazarian by doubling the profits of the Armenian Mob. This success prompted Nazarian to ally with Miklos wholeheartedly.

With Nazarian's influence bolstering his growing empire, Miklos turned his sights to the Los Santos Triads. Nazarian, harboring a deep grudge against the Triads, eagerly supported Miklos in the fight to take them down, setting the stage for an even larger conflict in the city's underworld.

With Nazarian's backing, Miklos completed various tasks aimed at weakening the Triads. One of these tasks involved retrieving Alan's stolen car, which had been taken by the Triads. Miklos tracked the vehicle to a house in El Burro Heights, where it was stored in the garage. However, the location was heavily guarded by members of the Marabunta Grande, and Miklos discovered they had also kidnapped an actress, Jenni Taylor. Miklos rescued Jenni and brought her to safety at Thomas' house. As Miklos began protecting Jenni from her pursuers, the two formed a close bond, developing a warm and growing relationship amidst the chaos.

During Miklos' journey, he continued to fulfill his Merryweather duties under Otto Matic, who was later promoted to Captain. Miklos participated in numerous operations, many of which went disastrously wrong. For instance, a plane he was tasked with protecting was attacked mid-flight, forcing him to parachute to safety. In another instance, a train he was supposed to secure was derailed, its cargo stolen by thieves who managed to escape before he could apprehend them.

One of the more chaotic moments occurred during his failed attempt to capture Michael De Santa at the Kortz Center. The mission spiraled out of control as Miklos found himself caught in a deadly crossfire between FIB agents, IAA, and Merryweather, with his target escaping amidst the chaos. These repeated setbacks caused him to become disillusioned with Merryweather, and he decided to focus more on taking over Los Santos behind their backs.

Later, Miklos successfully added the Triads to his growing empire and began working closely with their leader, Tatsu Hsiang. However, tensions rose when Tatsu and Alan Nazarian clashed over territory, influence, and long-standing grudges. The escalating conflict forced Miklos to make a critical decision about where his loyalties lay: between the Armenians, who had helped him rise to power, or the Triads, whose resources and connections could further his ambitions.

Miklos' rapid ascent also drew the attention of NightHawk, a notorious international terrorist organization led by Lincoln Jones. Jones blackmailed Miklos into committing an assassination on a prisoner inside the Bolingbroke Penitentiary. To pull off the operation, Miklos reunited with his estranged father, Michael Lipton. This reunion forced him to confront the fractured relationship with his father amidst the chaos.

Shortly after, Perry betrayed Miklos by "revealing" to Otto Matic that Miklos had been behind all of Merryweather's failed operations, which was a lie sewn to take Miklos out. Matic fired Miklos from Merryweather, and Perry turned Victor Sax and the Aztecas against him. Miklos lost his mantle as the ultimate crime lord, and Lincoln Jones placed a bounty on him for killing a couple of his men and as a lesson that life can suck sometimes.

Angered, Miklos decided to settle things with Perry. He attempted to have a talk with Victor but was ultimately forced to kill him when Victor and his men attacked. Perry took over Fort Zancudo and refused to let anyone past the gates except Miklos.

Miklos fought his way through Perry's faction and NightHawk mercenaries, eventually confronting Perry in Captain Matic's office. Perry was holding Matic hostage. Miklos demanded to know why Perry had betrayed him. Perry then revealed that he was, in fact, Tony Meech, Miklos' old friend who was presumed dead in Afghanistan. Tony blamed Miklos for his "death" and had orchestrated his complex scheme to ultimately betray him and make him feel what it was like to be alone against the cruel world. Miklos dismissed Tony's plan as nonsensical. Tony fled with Matic as his hostage to Mount Chilliad.

With his plans in shambles and no options left, Tony attempted to shoot Miklos, but Miklos killed him, putting an end to it all once and for all.

Aftermath

Miklos believed he could leave behind the life of crime to settle down and maybe start a family. If Alan Nazarian was spared, he gifted Miklos a golden Sabre Turbo as a token of gratitude. If Tatsu was spared, she gifted Miklos a custom black and gold Oracle, designed for both elegance and practicality, symbolizing Triad loyalty.

Captain Otto Matic approached Miklos to apologize and offered him a position as an officer in Merryweather. Miklos promised to consider the offer, noting that he might need Matic's help in tracking down Lincoln Jones. However, by the end of 2013, Merryweather lost its clearance to operate on American soil and Otto took the fall. This left Otto without a job, but in 2015, he found a new position with their competitor, Cerberus Security, where he once again extended the job offer to Miklos.

Despite his desire for a peaceful life, Miklos couldn't help but reflect on his rise to power. In the back of his mind, he wondered if he could start over again. Perhaps in Los Santos, or perhaps somewhere new. The temptation of being "king of the hill" lingered, leaving his future uncertain.

Personality

Miklos is a determined and ambitious tough guy, driven by a desire to make a difference, achieve power, and amass fame and wealth. Despite his ruthless climb to the top as crime lord, he doesn't enjoy killing and only resorts to it in self-defense, for a reward, is forced to, or to exact revenge.

Far from being callous, Miklos values his relationships and fiercely protects his relatives and close friends when his actions inevitably draw enemies. His former military background and training with Merryweather Security gives him exceptional physical conditioning and proficiency with a wide range of weapons, making him a formidable force in both combat and survival.

Miklos maintained a complicated friendship with Perry Harris, despite Perry's constant taunts and attempts to treat him as a subordinate muscle for dirty work. He also forms a romantic relationship with aspiring actress Jenni Taylor after rescuing her from the Marabunta Grande. Miklos grows a strong bond with his cousin Thomas Lipton, and the two frequently support each other in their ventures.

Miklos' Baller ST

Miklos may not be an expert in cars, but he is a solid driver, his skills saving his life many times. Throughout his journey in Los Santos, he relied on his Gallivanter Baller, a trusted and reliable SUV. However, after his Baller was totaled while saving his friend Victor Sax, Miklos turned to Mors Mutual Insurance for compensation.

Miklos' Caracara

The payout allowed him to upgrade to a brand-new 2013 Vapid Caracara 4x4. Rugged, durable, and fast both on streets and off-road, the Caracara became his perfect companion for his high-stakes lifestyle. With reinforced steel frames, large wheels, and custom-fitted with a bull bar, the truck helped him make an imposing statement in the criminal underworld.

Miklos' Baller ST-D

However, after being forcibly recruited into the clutches of Lincoln Jones and subjected to his ruthless games, Miklos was left with nothing but his own rage and exhaustion. His trusty Caracara that had carried him through countless chases, ambushes, and getaways, was obliterated in a massive explosion and drowned in Vespucci Beach.

Stripped of his freedom and his beloved ride, Lincoln Jones saw fit to reward his "pawn" with a brand-new 2014 Gallivanter Baller ST-D. A truck so pristine white it nearly blinded him. Armored paneling, bulletproof windows, custom wheels and a supercharged engine... a car fit for a king. But Miklos knew better. It was a gilded cage. A leash. A reminder. And just to mock him further, the license plate read one word: PAWN.
