- ❝The most high-tech stealth fighter ever built. Its exact specifications are an American defense secret, which is why said specifications have been stolen and copied by Russia, China, Japan, Iran, Britain, Germany, Brazil, and about 19 other countries that don't even build fighter planes. Please note: This aircraft is excluded from Pegasus Lifestyle Management and must be stored in a personal hangar.❞

The Coil S-5 Shatter is a military stealth fighter jet featured in Grand Theft Auto Online as part of the Air Superiority update.
Design[]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
The aircraft's design is an amalgamation of multiple different fifth-generation stealth fighter jets. Much of the aircraft is based on the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor, mostly seen in the wings, fuselage, and intakes. The cockpit resembles that of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II. There are also two small canards that resemble those of the Chengdu J-20, though they are retractable and are only used to assist in braking. Much of the rear of the aircraft also appears to originate from the J-20. The intakes and stabilizers resemble those of the Sukhoi Su-57, though the vertical stabilizers have been made somewhat larger. The afterburners resemble those of the Northrop YF-23, though they are positioned similarly to the F-22's afterburners.
In terms of armament, the S-5 has three internal weapons bays around the middle of the fuselage. The two missile bays are located on the sides of the intakes, while the bomb bay is located on the bottom of the fuselage. The weapons bays open when their respective weapons are deployed. Each missile bay contains two missiles (the second is farther back and only slightly visible), while the bomb bay contains two bombs. If bombs are not equipped, the bomb bay will contain four missiles; it will open when a missile is fired, but all missiles will be fired from the missile bays, meaning the missiles in the bomb bay will always remain unused.
Performance[]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
Vehicle[]
The S-5 is incredibly fast, with a top speed of approximately 218 knots while flying above 900 feet, making it one of the fastest aircraft in the game, only helped by its high acceleration. Its sleek design and lack of bulky exterior hardpoints allow for excellent maneuverability as well, and its low weight can help it glide at high altitudes.
The S-5's primary drawback, if anything, is its sensitivity to movement. Even slight turns at high speeds can bring it off-course and slow it down, which can reduce its effectiveness in certain situations and can frequently cause crashes. However, this can still be used by experienced pilots to varying degrees of effectiveness. All in all, the S-5 is an extremely capable fighter that is fearsome in the right hands.
Defense[]
The S-5 is quite fragile; like other fighter jets, it can only take one missile, but it can go down from less Minigun and Heavy Sniper shots than others. Its control surfaces can also become damaged from blasts. Despite its stealth capabilities, the S-5 can still be locked onto and shot down by homing missiles, which can destroy it easily, though the S-5 is capable of outmaneuvering standard homing missiles without countermeasures.
Of note is that, if the S-5 is less than 100 feet off the ground, it will not appear on radar, regardless of speed. However, it will obviously become much more visible to those on the ground, with a higher risk of crashing.
The aircraft can be fitted with countermeasures to improve its defensive capabilities against homing missiles, each one with their own attributes:
- The Chaff countermeasure disrupts the targeting system from missile launchers, cancelling any locks and rendering them unable to lock on the aircraft for ten seconds. Pilots who fly through the Chaff cloud will also receive a false missile lock warning for three seconds. They have a delay of five seconds before being used again and only have 10 uses.
- The Flare countermeasure drops several flares from the bottom of the aircraft, which can "disorient" the homing missile in order to avoid chasing the aircraft. They have a delay of three seconds before being used again and only have 20 uses.
- The Smoke countermeasure creates a trail of smoke that can disorient the enemy pilot, but its effectiveness is very limited, as the trail is large enough for a standard cockpit and the enemy pilot would just need to move away and follow the smoke trail. It has no delay between uses and can be used indefinitely.
Weapons[]
- Explosive Cannon: The S-5 is fitted with an explosive cannon that is extremely powerful and effective, being able to swiftly destroy unarmored and armored targets, though the latter typically require sustained fire. However, it has a limited range of 600 feet.
- Missiles: The S-5 is fitted with several missiles that can be toggled between lock-on and unguided. As an aircraft added in the Air Superiority update, the S-5 has four different missile types: Standard, Anti-Air, Anti-Ground, Long-Range, and Multi-Lock.
- Standard: Standard missiles seen on other aircraft. Has mediocre maneuverability and deals regular damage against all types of targets.
- Anti-Air: Advanced missiles as seen on the Oppressor Mk II before The S.A.H.P. Update, albeit with slightly less turning. Has excellent maneuverability and deals 1.5x damage to aircraft and airborne targets. However, Anti-Air Missiles cannot lock onto ground- and water-based targets, and they deal significantly less damage to these targets. They also have a smaller blast radius, and are more attracted to flares than other missiles.
- Anti-Ground: Specialized missiles designed to destroy ground- and sea-based targets. Has poor maneuverability, but deals 1.5x damage to ground vehicles, watercraft, and ground-based targets, with a larger blast radius. However, Anti-Ground Missiles cannot lock onto air-based targets, and they deal significantly less damage to these targets.
- Long-Range: Large long-range missiles designed to destroy targets before visual contact is made. Has poor maneuverability and deals standard damage to all targets, but is significantly faster, lasts significantly longer, and can lock onto targets from farther away than usual, delaying the target's missile alert until after the missile has been fired. However, Long-Range Missiles cannot lock onto on-foot targets or players on Free Mode missions, such as sell missions.
- Multi-Lock: A rack of four missiles that allow pilots to target and fire on four targets at once. Has mediocre maneuverability, is weaker than regular missiles, and has a smaller blast radius, but is faster and lasts longer than other missiles. However, Multi-Lock Missiles cannot fire unguided, and they cannot lock onto on-foot targets or players on Free Mode missions, such as sell missions. The rack also empties itself once it is fired, regardless of the number of target locks, and it does not reload until the fired missiles explode.
- Bombs: The S-5 has the option for installing bombs, providing heavy firepower against ground targets but increasing weight and reducing maneuverability. There are four different bomb types: Explosive, Incendiary, Gas and Cluster.
- Explosive: Standard bomb, dealing consistent, high damage over targets from all ranges.
- Incendiary: Creates a trail of fire similar to the Molotov Cocktail, burning targets for constant damage. Although the bombs are powerful on impact, it deals low splash damage.
- Gas: Creates a large gas cloud that has a noxious effect on players and NPCs, similar to the Tear Gas. It has a larger blast radius, but is unable to damage vehicles. The gas lasts for around 25 seconds.
- Cluster: Creates a smaller explosion on impact, but deploys smaller cluster bombs within a larger radius, allowing for greater damage against either a single target or multiple close targets.

Trivia[]
- The S-5 is one of the most expensive vehicles in the game, second to the Luxor Deluxe.
- The S-5's description may be a reference to American claims that the J-20 was created from information on the F-35 program that was allegedly stolen by Chinese hackers.
- A promotional image for the S-5 features it flying through a train tunnel, a likely reference to the Ace Combat series, which prominently features the F-22 (one of the S-5's real life inspirations) and tunnel flight sequences in almost all entries.
- Additionally, the S-5's name, "Shatter", may be a reference to Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies.
