Shifting Gears is a mission in Grand Theft Auto: Life in San Fierro given to Demetrius El Rey Ajedrez and Vincent Douglas by Hao Peng, a red pole of the Blue Nose Tongs.
Plot[]
Starting the mission as Demetrius will open with him waxing his car before Hao Peng called him into the house while starting the mission Vincent had him getting ready to take shower as he had a towel around his waist before being called into the living room.
Demetrius and Vincent arrived in the living room as Hao Peng was waiting just he placed the phone back down as he told them that he spoke with Gong revealing that he noted objective to take over San Fierro will need some assistance and made contact with Kmeng Tomneung in Treasure City before explaining that the had of Kmeng Tomneung agreed to work with him on the condition that Gong did him a favor first. Hao explained that a street race in Roseanne will be taking place in which he explained that Kmeng Tomneung need a driver and one to win the race will go on to take place in air race. Peng told the pair to follow him in which he took them to the garage to show that he had pair of Virgo Classics for them to use for the race before telling that the race had a 2 seriale buy-in with the pair declaring that had enough seriale on them and the starting line was on Kush Avenue, Southwest of Los Camino Picaros.
The player's were prompted to choose between Demetrius and Vincent before making their way to the starting line in which three other racers arrived - one in a black Corquette Classic, another in a blue and red Clover, and the third in a pink Stinger Classic. Vincent and Demetrius gave their seriale to the race referee as did the other racers; Anirudh, Tariq, and Palden - approached to give hand over 2 Seriale as well. Vincent noticed Palden before becoming accused and asked why she was putting her boygriend's seriale only for her to tell him that she doesn't have a boyfriend and that she earned her seriale. Vincent was confused asked her who bought the car in which she became even more confused before saying that she bought her own car. The referee told them to shut up and get back in their cars as he was going to get the race started with Vincent making his way to the car with Demetrius asking what his deal was to which Vincent mentioned he grew up "traditionally like Americans should".
The race began as they sped their way down Kush Avenue as they zipped onto Red Oak Avenue drifting around the sharp turns and curves as they made their way onto Mountain Ash Avenue before speeding onto Kush Avenue as they charged their way until turning sharply onto Black Willow Avenue where Anirudh loses control and crashed his car at high speeds in tree causing himself to be partially ejected through windscreen. They zipped right onto Gall Oak Avenue before zooming down Dwarf Willow Avenue, however, as they were sped left back onto Kush Avenue - Tariq spun out of control and went over several burial plots before regaining control and resuming the race. The racers continued following the road onto Blue Oak Avenue before turning left on Gall Oak Avenue this time before zooming around the bend with Tariq ending up turning a little to wind and drove on several graves and burial plots but managed to correct himself. With sharp turn they made their way onto Musk Willow Avenue and onto Apple Tree Avenue where Palden crashed sideways into a nearby tree - totally her care and as she appeared critically injured. The remaining races continue as they zoomed leftwards on Apple Tree Avenue and onto White Oak Avenue, however, as just as he was follow White Oak Avenue instead turning onto Red Oak Avenue - he attempted turn at the last minute but crash into a nearby tree.
Vincent and Demetrius continued the race with other races either dead or incapacitated with as either Vincent or Demetrius win the race. A Cambodian-American man approached the victor and told them they were impressed with their driving skills before telling one of his fellow gang members to 'clean up' the track and remove the cars before handing either Vincent or Demetrius the 10 Seriale and telling them they look forward to their next performance.
Vincent and Demetrius walked over to their respective Virgo Classics and if Vincent one the race - Demetrius will express his surprise that he loss and stated that Vincent was lucky and warns him that Kmeng Tomneung were extremely dangerous in which he explained that when they say they were going to "clean something" - it means that they will cap someone and make them disappear. However, if Demetrius lost he will smugly mentioned that he was more experience with racing than Vincent and that he shouldn't be too upset that he lost in which Vincent was saying nothing in which Vincent asked what the Kmeng Tomneung guy meant by "cleaning up' the track to which Demetrius interrupted before he finished to explain that that it means to kill the other drivers that crashed and make their disappear. Vincent expresses that he was glad that he didn't win as he didn't want to work for some Cambodian criminals. Demetrius stated that'd better take the cars back and let Peng know of the outcome.
They drive back to return to cars in which Demetrius and Vincent inside before the game skipped forward to night
