The Almighty Spanish Lords Nation (ASLN, or SLN, also known as simply Spanish Lords) is a gang active primarily in the United States as well as internationally. The gang was founded by Puerto-Ricans Champaign, Jolliet, in 1955. The Spanish Lords are one of the largest Hispanic & Latino street and prison gangs worldwide.
In the United States, the Spanish Lords operate under two umbrella factions — the Lords Motherland Champaign (LMC) faction headquartered in Champaign, and the Crown Nation faction based in Liberty. The LMC faction consists of 5 structured chapters operating in 11 cities in 7 U.S. states, with a membership of between 20,000. The Crown Nation Spanish Lords have a membership of 2,800, and operate several dozen chapters in 6 cities in 3 states. The gang also has a significant presence in the prison system. The Spanish Lords are involved in a wide variety of criminal activities, including drug dealing, assault, burglary, homicide, identity theft, and money laundering, with the gang's primary source of income deriving from the street-level distribution of narcotics.
History[]
The Lords Motherland Champaign | LMC
The Spanish Lords were founded in the Grand Park area of Champaign in 1955 by Ramon "El Burro" Kings as the Imperials, a Puerto Rican & Mexican progress movement with the goal of overcoming racial discrimination. With the Latino community facing constant violence from Greek and Italian gangs, the Imperials merged with various other Puerto Rican and Mexican street gangs to form the Spanish Lords. With its original focus being on fighting back against discrimination, the gang would later, however, devolve into a criminal enterprise operating throughout the United States. There are two umbrella factions: the Lords Motherland Champaign (LMC) – also known as Lords Manifesto and Constitution – and Crown Nation, formed in Liberty City in 1984. All members of the gang identify themselves as Spanish Lords.
The Champaignfaction of the Spanish Lords is recognized as one of the largest Hispanic street gangs in the United States after the Vagos and Rifas, as well as Marabunta Grande and the Aztecas16, and one of the largest street gangs based in Champaign. Their greatest membership is within the United States; in the city of Champaign alone, the gang has more than 20,000 members. The Spanish Lords have also organized chapters in numerous states and several Latin American and European countries.
The Crown Nation Spanish Lords
The Crown Manifesto was founded by Rico "Papi" Felipe in 1984 in the Liberty State in Carcer Island. Spanish Lords associating with Liberty City State Crown Nation chapter also identify themselves as the "Almighty Spanish Lords Nation (ASLN). Membership is estimated to be as large as 2,800, divided among several dozen tribes operating in 6 cities in 3 states. Liberty State Crown Nation Spanish Lords share a common culture and structure with LMC and respect them as the Motherland, but not all chapters report to the Champaign leadership hierarchy
Organizational structure[]
The Spanish Lords have a hierarchical organizational structure. They have numerous "chapters" or "tribes" around the country which adhere to a regional, state, and national system. Officers are supported by a "Crown Council" of the 5 Crowns Council members. The Council sets rules and regulations and holds disciplinary hearings.
The hierarchy rises to regional officers and ultimately to two supreme regional "Incas" based in Champaign . The heads of the entire criminal organization are known as "coronas". One retired detective said in 2004: "When you compare them to other street gangs like the Ballas and the Families, none compare to the organization of the Spanish Lords.
