The Thirteen Colonies were British colonies in North America.
Information[]
The Thirteen Colonies, make what is today the east coast of America, these colonies would go on to be the founding states of the United States of America. The colonies were directly administrated by Great Britain. As the name suggests, it was comprised of Thirteen Colonies. The colonies were the most populous and economically prosperous of Britain's colonies in America, many of the colonists in the colonies had lived there for generations, with many communities and groups, each colony even had their own local militia, mostly separate from the British Army. These miltiamen were often seen as local armies of sorts, as they would patrol and observe the streets to make sure small crimes were mitigated.
The colonies were so diverse and different they were sometimes considered separate entities from Britain and its empire. The ever-growing population of these colonies would cement their growing differences from Great Britain.
History[]
The colonies' beginnings date back to 1585, with the founding of Roanoke Colony, in present-day North Jacobus. Edward Ramsey was the founder of the colony, unfortunately for him, he began to grow an addiction to opiates, and would be seen running around naked on the coast. Eventually, his crewmates would have enough and engage in mutiny. The crew eventually disappeared by 1590.
In 1607, another crew, led by Isaac Wanton, sent out by King James I, would begin an expedition in the Americans, landing in modern-day, Chesapeake, they would create a small town, this town would be named Jamestown, after James I. The colony would grow very quickly and would inspire more colonists to come to the Americas. By 1610, the town had a population of 620. And already had its own militia, church, and bank.
After seeing how successful Jamestown was, another set of colonists, mainly Puritans, were forcibly shipped out to the Americas, and they landed in modern-day Coventry, Narragansett. These Puritans would have a very successful and rich colony, the colony would be called Portsmouth. This colony would continue to be successful, but as time went on more Catholics from England and Ireland would come to the colony, and tensions would rise between the Puritans and Catholic settlers which would lead to the Bigot's War of 1690. With more settlement in the North-Eastern part of America, these colonies became known as the New England colonies.
In 1664, the English colonies would see more expansion, with the seizure of New Rotterdam, and the rest of New Netherlands, during the Anglo-Dutch War. New Netherlands would go on to become Liberty and East & West Alderney, respectively, and East Alderney and West Alderney would merge to become Alderney. In 1681, King Charles II would grant a charter to Edward Shawn, he would land in what would become Nassau, and form the colony of Shawnee. He used "freedom" as his way of promoting the colony, stating that "any peasant to nobleman can go to a brothel, get shitfaced, and leave the next day with no memory of what happened the previous night". Seeing this, many colonists flocked to the Nassau colony and helped the colony of Shawnee grow.
The final colony, Augustus was founded in 1732, by John Hufflepuff, named after King George II, Augustus being his middle name. Despite being founded later than the other colonies, Augustus was quickly populated by wealthy slave planters, due to its rich crops and resources. This would earn it the informal name, the Slave Colony, later Slave State.
